SASS, also known as SCSS, is a special syntax for writing optimized, enhanced CSS code.
One of SASS' main features is its support for mixins, a way to automatically include large code blocks using SASS variables.
Mixins are one of the reasons SASS is so successful in the first place, allowing developers to write more CSS code with less syntax.
Bourbon is basically a large collection of SASS mixins that include basic CSS code blocks, used almost in every project and that reduce the time spent writing CSS even more than usual.
These utilities address a wide range of CSS problems and allow the developer only to write the SASS code unique to the project at hand, while using Bourbon to automate as much CSS code as possible.
Bourbon can be used with any Ruby or Ruby on Rails project.
