In recent years it has become a recommended practice of embedding the image themselves inside CSS files instead of loading them via separate HTTP requests.
This procedure detailed and encouraged by Google's SEO team reduces the number of HTTP requests a site needs to load and improves page loading speed.
The technique revolves around the data URI RFC 2397 standard and relies on converting the image's bitmap data into a Base 64 string.
The string can then be used instead of the image location inside the CSS file, embedding the image's data inside the stylesheet itself.
imacss supports PNG and SVG images, can be applied to one image at a time, to an entire CSS file, or even an entire folder.
imacss can also be used as a standalone toolkit via the Node.js CLI, or as a classic programmatic library.
